Mercer:
A diversity statement from our CIO

I am a strong believer in the power of diverse teams. In this I mean diversity in all its forms. Ultimately it’s about diversity of thought. You can achieve diversity of thought through building a team that has a blend of genders, cultural backgrounds, educational backgrounds, ages, sexual orientation, personality types and all other forms of diversity.

I am trying to improve the diversity in my team by encouraging a diverse pool of talent when hiring, by providing development opportunities for the diverse talent within my team and by being an advocate for diversity within Mercer and across the industry.

As a female CIO, I have the opportunity to be a role model. This is a responsibility that I take very seriously and it drives me to be successful, knowing that my success not only benefits me, my organisation and my family but also has the broader, long term benefit making it easier for the female CIO’s to come after me.

I actively encourage and support flexible work practices within my team. I believe that flexibility is a key enabler for improving diversity at all levels. Mercer has two internal slogans that resonate strongly with me - #allrolescanflex and #leadersleadingloudly

Culture ultimately comes from the top and leaders need to advocate for diversity, inclusion and flexibility. I feel extremely fortunate to be in a position where I can be part of the change. When you have a voice, you should use it. That’s what I intend to do.
